Dr Chhitij Srivastava, MD, DNB, MRCPsych, CCT
Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist
Dr Chhitij is a Consultant Psychiatrist with over a decade of Consultant-level experience, having practised since 2012 across both the UK and India. He specialises in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and provides assessment and treatment for children, adolescents, and young adults up to the age of 25. Dr Chhitij completed his postgraduate medical training at King George's Medical University, Lucknow, before undertaking advanced specialist training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the South London and Maudsley (SLaM) NHS Foundation Trust, one of the world's leading centres for psychiatric training. During his time at SLaM, he obtained both Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) and his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
His specialist training included extensive clinical experience across internationally recognised centres, including the Maudsley Hospital, Bethlem Royal Hospital, and St Thomas' Hospital.As part of his specialist training, Dr Chhitij worked within the national specialist outpatient services at the Michael Rutter Centre, where he developed a particular interest in the assessment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders, especially Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
These remain his principal areas of clinical expertise.Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Chhitij has previously served as a Professor of Psychiatry, combining academic leadership with clinical excellence. This experience has strengthened his commitment to evidence-based practice, teaching, and the development of future mental health professionals.
Dr Chhitij has extensive Consultant-level experience in both the UK and India, with broad expertise across all areas of psychiatry and a particular focus on neurodevelopmental conditions. His practice is underpinned by a biopsychosocial approach, integrating pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions to provide holistic, individualised care. His therapeutic approach includes medication management, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), family therapy, and parent training, with treatment plans tailored to the unique needs of each young person and their family.
He remains actively involved in teaching and academic work, particularly in the areas of ADHD and Autism. In addition, he holds an honorary faculty position at the Centre for Behaviour and Cognitive Sciences, a leading Indian centre of excellence in brain research.Outside of his clinical and academic roles, Dr Chhitij is a passionate endurance athlete who has completed multiple marathons, ultramarathons, and long-distance cycling events. These experiences reflect his strong belief in the positive impact of physical activity on mental health and wellbeing. He also advocates for environmentally responsible practices and promotes sustainable living, including initiatives to reduce carbon footprints.
Dr Chhitij is a valued member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), contributing to the assessment of patients up to the age of 25. He is also available for ongoing follow-up appointments, ensuring continuity of care for children, adolescents, and young adults.
