Karen Hayre is an ADHD Assessor and Senior Psychotherapist with extensive experience working across private healthcare, the NHS, and the third sector in both the UK and the UAE. She specialises in comprehensive ADHD assessments for adolescents and adults, combining clinical expertise with a warm, collaborative approach to help individuals gain a clear understanding of their strengths, challenges, and next steps.Alongside her work in ADHD assessments, Karen has developed a specialist interest in addiction, supporting individuals experiencing alcohol, gambling, substance, and behavioural addictions. She previously played a key role in developing and delivering the world's first women-only residential rehabilitation programme for gambling addiction in the UK, providing trauma-informed, evidence-based treatment for individuals with complex mental health needs.
Karen holds a Master's degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Keele University in the UK, and has completed specialist training in ADHD assessment, EMDR, Brainspotting, and couples therapy. Her broad clinical experience enables her to recognise the overlap between ADHD and co-occurring difficulties such as anxiety, depression, trauma, emotional dysregulation, and addictive behaviours, ensuring that assessments are thorough, holistic, and person-centred.
Alongside her clinical practice, Karen is frequently invited to share her expertise through the media and professional speaking engagements. She has appeared in a BBC documentary exploring addiction, been interviewed on Dubai Eye to discuss social media addiction, and has contributed expert commentary to a range of newspapers and publications across the UAE. She has also delivered training and presentations for fellow clinicians, as well as workshops and talks for corporations, schools, and universities on topics including ADHD, addiction, resilience, mental health, and psychological wellbeing.Karen is passionate about improving access to accurate ADHD diagnosis and helping individuals better understand how ADHD may influence their daily lives, relationships, education, and work. She believes that a thorough assessment can be life-changing, providing clarity, validation, and a clear pathway towards appropriate support and treatment.
Karen is a part of the MDT team for ADHD assessments and is available for follow up and psychotherapy sessions with patients.
